I'm a bit of a dreamer, and inspiration can hit me suddenly and can come from the strangest of places, but there are a number of things that really keep me inspired constantly.
My dad, an artist from Glasgow with a keen interest in pop art, mods and westerns. To me his work is extremely personal which I think is difficult to imagine with pop art. Every image is central to his interests or to his memories. In my childhood I can remember Glasgow School of Art being a constant and I thought the Library was amazing. I remember going to galleries and shows from an early age, and meeting some of the most interesting people. I knew I wanted to be in the creative industries and if it wasn't for my dad I don't think I would be half as creative as I am. As a child he was my biggest inspiration, and he still is to this day. Love you dad!
Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen was the first designer that I took a huge interest in. I studied him all through high school purely because I felt that I wasn't done writing about him! I remember showing his work to my friends and they would be unimpressed because they wouldn't wear his pieces, or they would be taken aback by his designs. I loved how every piece would get a reaction from the viewer, and his ready to wear pieces still had a wow factor. It's one thing to be an impeccable designer, and another to be an impeccable tailor.. and McQueen was both. He had a rebellious attitude within fashion and an insane amount of talent.
Curvy Kate
Lingerie has always been a huge interest of mine. Having a 28 back size and a larger cup can make it extremely challenging to find a feminine, flattering bra. Not only does Curvy Kate cater to this, but they also aim to make women of any size feel comfortable in their own skin. Every year they host a competition called 'Star in a Bra' which gives women of any shape the chance to win a modelling contract, free lingerie as well as promoting a healthy body image. I have so much faith in this brand, even writing about them has put me in a better mood!
